Sculpture Exhibition Unveiling on China’s National Day

Michael Binkley Changsha Li Zijian exhibition

Today is the 65th birthday of the People’s Republic of China, and the sculptors of the Changsha International Sculpture Arts Festival officially opened our exhibition of smaller works. It is an honour to be part of an international sculpture exhibition that is unveiled on the National Day of the host country.

I was elected by my peers to make some opening remarks on behalf of all us sculptor participants. As well, Mr. Lei Yixin, Mr. Tan, former mayor of Changsha and Mr. Li Zijian also made remarks. There were about 200 eager fans of Mr. Li on hand, despite the heat and humidity, but many were excited to have their photos taken with us sculptors as well.

After the speeches, we viewed the duel exhibitions of our sculptures and the paintings of Mr. Li. The venue is the brand new (still under construction) Science & Technology Building of the Yanghu Wetland Park, next to the open field where we stone sculptors are carving our monumental works. Even though the exterior is not quite finished, the building is very attractive architecturally and our exhibition halls very nice.
