“Catch” evolved from being two abstract forms that were similar in form, but opposite to each other. After carving and mounting them on the red granite base, Michael Binkley was inspired to connect the two forms visually by carving a small sphere and securing it to one form. It appears as if one form is telling the other to catch the ball.

The forms are carved from statuario marble quarried in the mountains above the famous town of Cararra, Italy. Statuario is Italian for statuary and is acknowledged as being one of the finest stones in the world to carve. It is almost pure white in colour (aside from a tiny grey striation at the top of the larger form) and Binkley left a silky smooth matte finish on the forms that is wonderful to the touch and gives the marble the ability to successfully hold shadow. The sphere is carved from jupiter marble from the state of Alaska, USA and has a high gloss polish. It is permanently secured to the larger form with a hidden metal pin and the forms are secured to the granite base by hidden metal pins.
