Hawaiian Kahunas Bless the Breadfruit Leaf

On December 8, 2006, Michael Binkley’s public art sculpture, “Breadfruit Leaf” was honoured with a blessing ceremony.

Two Kahunas (Hawaiian priests) presided over a ceremony to honour the memorial sculpture. Wreathed in a traditional orchid lei, the Kahunas blessed the sculpture with Hawaiian prayers and anointed it with holy water.

Binkley spoke to the assembled crowd, thanking patron Elizabeth Warren and explaining the symbolism of the Breadfruit Leaf sculpture. The Kahunas with Binkley and Elizabeth with a backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.

Michael and Michelle Binkley stand with Elizabeth Warren at the conclusion of the ceremony, and guests laid their own leis upon the sculpture.
