Michael Binkley carved this original stone, female torso sculpture, titled “Slipped Necklace” from bardiglio marble, a variety of marble that is quarried at the famous town of Carrara, Italy. Although Carrara is known mostly for its fine white marble, this light grey variety is also quarried there.
Binkley carved the sculpture so that it will turn on a single point of the female figure’s right hip. There is no hidden pin, or rotating device. There is a streak of black that runs around the shoulder area of the figure. It looks as though her necklace has slipped off her shoulder, so this inspired the sculpture’s title.
Binkley polished the sculpture surfaces to a high, mirror-like sheen in order to accentuate the stone’s colours.I would like more information about this sculpture
