Michael Binkley carved this original abstract stone sculpture from a calcite stone called honey onyx that is quarried in the state of Utah, USA and from jupiter marble that is quarried in the state of Alaska, USA. The abstract vertical figures are onyx, while the sphere is marble and all are mounted onto a charcoal grey granite base. Both the onyx and marble have striations of colour banding running through them and Binkley purposefully changed the angle of the marble sphere’s lines to contrast with the onyx. The sphere is permanently affixed to the onyx with a hidden metal pin.
The vertical abstract forms resemble human figures and the taller form has a sphere that it seems to be offering to the shorter form. This is what inspired the sculpture title.
