Female Derriere, 2002
• monashee black marble
• 19″H x 9.5″W x 5″D (48cm H x 24cm W x 13cm D)
Michael Binkley has carved this female nude derriere sculpture from a block of monashee black marble which is quarried in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It is a high relief sculpture that will hang on a wall.
Binkley has left the original edge of the rough marble block on the upper and lower part of the sculpture to emulate an ancient antiquity sculpture. The surface of the nude is a silky smooth matte finish that allows the marble to successfully hold shadow and so the deep black colour of the marble is accentuated. There is a sense of movement created by the contraposto pose of the figure and the left scapula is evident.I would like more information about this sculpture
